6/10/02 - Spouse name: Teresa. College info: Richland College, AAS in Ornamental Horticulture. Family info: son: Keith is a musician in San Francisco; step-daughters: Katie is a senior at Seattle University majoring in French and International Business, Meghan is a junior at University of Northern Colorado majoring in Secondary Education. No grandchildren yet. Job info: Moved from Dallas to Longmont, Colorado in 1988 to work as a grower in a commercial greenhouse. Have been working for the City of Longmont Parks Department for the last 10 years. Hobbies: Have been singing barbershop music for 21 years, bass in the Eleventh Hour quartet and in the Longmont Barbershop Chorus. Working on old cars; proud owner of a restored 1957 Chevrolet convertible, a 1963 Nova convertible in progress and an original 1941 Studebaker. Gardening and home repair. Reading. Church related activities. Influence: William S. Mitchell had more to do with my love of music than anyone else in my life. His band class wasn't work, it was constant fun. And even though I haven't played the saxophone since graduating, I've discovered my vocal abilities because Mr. Mitchell made me into a person who needs to make music to feel complete. Mr. Bullock taught me (1) how to do mathematical calculations in my head (It's been a handy ability.) and (2) that it's OK to be an intelligent, educated adult and still enjoy childish things. He always watched Sesame Street before coming to school and said it was his favorite show. Miss Butler gave me the confidence to speak and perform in public, to connect with the listeners. I've been doing that for years as a singer, a show emcee, a church liturgist and so forth. I have especially fond memories of times spent with Cecil Neal ('71), Patsy Soto, Rachel Aguilar, Luis Alfredo Ramirez Lopez (Yes, I remember the whole name for some reason.), Gilbert Guerrero, and Maurice Graham. Things Would Do Different: If I could know what I know now, I'd decide on a career then, instead of years later. I wouldn't have waited so long to go on my first date. I would have taken 4 years of Spanish (useful) instead of 4 years of Latin (pretty useless). And I would have said something else at our graduation ceremony instead of the drivel that I actually delivered. Thanks for not booing me off the stage. Comments: Our class was together during a tumultuous time. School desegregation and busing challenged us to learn, accept and appreciate other people and cultures. The Viet Nam war dared us to examine country, duty and political systems and change what needed changing. The "information age" that we take for granted now was just in its infancy then. We actually had to use the library instead of the Internet. The digital era was just beginning. What we wouldn't have given for a little pocket calculator in Trigonometry class. It's been a great time to live and it was a great time to be with all of you at ND. | |

3/14/2010 - Info About Your Children /Grand Children I only have two children. My husband and I adopted two children from Moscow, Russia. One girl, Valeria and one boy, Vadim. They're 12 years old now. Schools/Degrees After High School After NDHS, I started off by attending El Centro Community College for 3 1/2 years full time with double majors in Interior Design and Architecture. I got an AA and a Professional Certificate of Degree at El Centro and stayed on the Dean's List. Transferred to the University of Texas at Arlington for my Bachelor's degree. Went Greece and Italy in my last semester to study ancient Architecture. In Venice, Italy I got to sit and have ice cream with actor, James Coburn. Info About Jobs During Working Career After college I mostly focused on my career in commercial interior design /architecture. I worked at several design / architectural firms in Dallas. The most notable of my projects in Dallas was as an in-house designer for Lamar, Bunker, and Herbert Hunt on their new 50 story building in downtown Dallas, Thanksgiving Tower. I left Dallas in the mid 80's and moved to Washington, DC. I worked there as an Architectural Specialist at the U.S. Department of State, Marriott Hotel Headquarters designing new hotel concepts, Leo A. Daly Architects, and several others. More recently, I have won 2 design competitions for a local architectural, engineering, and design firm. I have also had the opportunity to design interiors for various Intels as well as Intel Israel in the area of semi-conductor facility design. Hobbies I still enjoy anything that has to do with art, sight-seeing, reading history and biographies, music, fine dining, and doing a lot of various things with my 2 children. NDHS Teachers, Activities, etc. That Affected Your Life Ms. Caroline Daniels, art; and most of the others who saw the potential in me that I didn't then. Activities that kept me focused in school were ROTC as the Rifle Team Military Princess, Cheerleading, concert choir, and especially Young Life with Bob McGhee after school. Is There Anything You Would Do Different If You Were Going To Repeat High School? I had a pretty full life then between school and activities. I did make the National Honor Society and graduated with Honors in spite of all my activities. Special Friends At NDHS Debi Hernandes, Lupe Pinales Grizzaffi, Edward Ramos, James Busby, Gail Leonard, Linda Atkins, Ricky Spencer, and so many more. |
