jack.keeter@gmail.com.  PS. I miss you and wish you my love.

(From Bob McCauley) Below is the email I received from Marie Keeter on 4/24/2010.

From Marie Keeter (4/24/2010 - 8:04pm) I think this is one of my favorite emails ever.  Enjoy!   It came from a dear old North Dallas high school friend Bill Swann.  I wrote him back that I enjoyed his email and thought it was the best one yet that I have ever received.  Marie

(From Jack Swann) Subject: Chocolate Ice Cream Sings One day I had lunch with some friends. Jim, a short, balding golfer type about 80 years old, came along with them---all in all, a pleasant bunch.  When the menus were presented, we ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups, except for Jim who said, "Ice Cream, please. Two scoops, chocolate. I wasn't sure my ears heard right, and the others were aghast. "Along with heated apple pie," Jim added, completely unabashed.  We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if people did this all the time. But when our orders were brought out, I didn't enjoy mine.  I couldn't take my eyes off Jim as his pie a-la-mode went down. The other guys couldn't believe it. They ate their lunches silently and grinned.  The next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Jim. I lunched on white meat tuna. He ordered a parfait.  I smiled. He asked if he amused me.  I answered, "Yes, you do, but also you confuse me  How come you order rich desserts, while I feel I must be sensible?"   He laughed and said "I'm tasting all that is possible. I try to eat the food I need, and do the things I should. But life's so short, my friend, I hate missing out on something good. This year I realized how old I was. (He grinned) I haven't been this old before. So, before I die, I've got to try those things that for years I had ignored."  "I haven't smelled all the flowers yet. There are too many trout streams I haven't fished. There's more fudge sundaes to wolf down and kites to be flown overhead. There are too many golf courses I haven't played. I've not laughed at all the jokes. I've missed a lot of sporting events and potato chips and cokes."  "I want to wade again in water and feel ocean spray on my face. I want peanut butter every day spread on my morning toast. I want un-timed long distance calls to the folks I love the most."  "I haven't cried at all the movies yet, or walked in the morning rain. I need to feel wind on my face. I want to be in love again.  "So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of having dinner, then should I die before night fall, I'd say I died a winner, because I missed out on nothing. I filled my heart's desire. I  had that final chocolate mousse before my life expired..."  With that, I called the waitress over.. "I've changed my mind, " I said. "I want what he is having, only add some more whipped cream!"   This is my gift to you - We need an annual Friends Day! If you get this twice, then you have more than one friend. Live well, love much & laugh often - Be happy.  SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS including me if I'm lucky enough to be counted among them.  Be mindful that happiness isn't based on possessions, power, or prestige, but on relationships with people we like and respect.   Remember that while "money talks", Chocolate ice cream sings!

8/4/2007 - Spouse - William G. Bellomy - married 55 years.  Family: We have one daughter, Darla Bellomy Campbell. She is married to a geologist, Donald Campbell. They live in Tyler, TX where Darla teaches 3rd grade at Andy Woods Elementary. Darla and Donald have one daughter, our only grandchild, 14-year old Christi Campbell. She is a freshman in high school this year and a straight-A student. We are very proud of her. She is a dancer and is in the high school cheer squad. Education - B.S., North Texas State University; MEd., North Texas State University, Denton, TX.  I was an Elementary School teacher for 24 years. I have taught every grade from 2nd through 6th,and I taught art to grades 4,5, and 6 for 7 years, but my favorite grade to teach was 3rd grade. One of my greatest honors was being selected as "Teacher of the Year" on three separate occasions by my fellow-teachers at George W. Truett Elem. School in Dallas. Two of those times, I was one of the seven finalists for the entire D.I.S.D. My husband also worked for the Dallas Ind. School District as a Visiting Teacher for the Special Ed. Dept. He visited the homes of parents with children in Special Ed. to interpret tests, get parental forms signed, etc. We retired in 1990 - I had 24 years, and my husband had 36 years. We enjoyed our work very much, but we are also loving retirement! We have an Airstream Travel Trailer and belong to the Airstream Club. We participate in local rallies several times a year in Texas. We also have been to 11 European countries with our Airstream group. We just returned from a six week trip to England, Scotland, and Wales with 20 other Airstream couples.  We rented motor homes and traveled throughout the British Isles. It was great! We are also involved in Genealogy research. My husband, Bill's, great-great-great-grandfather was one of George Washington's Life Guards for six years during the Revolutionary War. In Oct. of this year (2001) he will be participating in a parade and wreath-laying ceremony at Yorktown, VA where the final battle of the Revolution took place. I have written some children's stories and in the last 3 or 4 years have begun to write music. Two of my country-western songs have been recorded on CD's. We stay busy and are never bored!  Ms. Mary Bertrand, English teacher, and Miss Katherine Bradford, Art teacher, were my most influential teachers. They made their subjects interesting and cared about their students! They wanted us to achieve all we possibly could in life! I honor their memory! My best friend at North Dallas was Marie Brunson who is now Marie Brunson Keeter. Although she lives in California, we have remained friends from first grade (at Stephen J. Hay Elementary School in Dallas) to graduation at North Dallas and to the present time. When we see each other, as we did recently, it is as if we have never been away. Our friendship is as strong today as it ever was, and we are so happy to have email so we can talk to each other almost every day! Would I do anything different if I had NDHS to do over? No. I loved North Dallas High, and I feel that I got an excellent education there! I wish our 50th reunion could be in the spring or fall when it is not so hot!
