Emily spends a lot of time keeping up with the 49 class, changing addresses, mailing out rosters, sending dues checks on to the committee treasurer, talking on phone to arrange plans, then going out to tend to the plans. She is active in her church, where she is director of religious education, which is a huge umbrella in a teeny (100 families) church. In that context she planned & escorted a two-week trip to Italy: Milan, Florence, Pisa, Assisi (the main focus) & Rome in 1996. She also did a Cathedral tour & pilgrimage to England in the summer of 97. The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas has a ministry to latchkey children with an after-school care program & Emily sits on that board. 

Emily actively participates in visiting &/or setting up new programs and there are currently 13 programs in 9 schools in Dallas/Carrolton. Those efforts are totally funded by Diocesan grants and donations from churches. Also, although she retired from DISD 5 years ago, she did a full time sub job for Episcopal School of Dallas in fall term and the 1st grade for Dallas in the 95-96 school year, then another full time in 6th grade 96-97, same school. She had the fortune of being able to teach her grandchildren during those periods. Emily’s students had outstanding scores on both ITBS & TAAS. 

Emily has season tickets to opera which she attends with a ND friend and another friend she met in teaching. The 1950 ND class gave ND a $2500 donation in 2000 for the library and several of her class went over to make that presentation.

Emily went to the Centennial at Fair Park when she was 3 and was so impressed she told her daddy that she was going to come back. When he told me it would be 100 years before another one she told him that didn't matter, & it doesn't – that’s her goal. 

Her husband, Joe Mitchell was born in Breckenridge, moved to Gainesville where he attended high school, where his father worked for Sinclair/Arco until his retirement. Emily and Joe met at North Texas where Emily rushed through her degree (BA speech/English, with lifetime teaching cert.) so they could get married. However, Armed Forces service put a kink in that, so they had to wait to be married until he had only a few months left in service. You can email to Emily at ndal1@juno.com

After NDHS, Edwin got a BFA from the University of Texas, Austin, an MBA from the University of Missouri, and a JD from American University, School of Law. He was in the US Air Force for 26 years, then worked as a trust banker for 16 years and now sells Harley Davidson Motorcycles part time. His avocations are riding Harleys and skiing and is a Mediation Teacher.
